2007 Rosenfield Award Ceremony
The Rosenfield Distinguished Community Partnership Prize ceremony was held March 20, 2007 at the James West Alumni Center on the UCLA campus. The prize is designed to publicly recognize ongoing or one-time collaborations between UCLA faculty, or staff and community residents or non-profit organizations that have already enhanced the quality of life in Southern California communities in meaningful and measurable ways. Winning partnerships must demonstrate the importance of connecting academic knowledge to community knowledge.
Each of the four annual awards is made jointly to the principal UCLA participant and the community partner, thereby publicly recognizing and uniting the two halves of the UCLA in LA partnership. This year's recipients were Dr. Yasmin Kafai and community partner Youth Opportunities Unlimited; Dr. Marguerita Lightfoot and community partner My Friend's Place; Dr. Alison Bailey and Margaret Heritage and community partner Para Los Ninos; and, David Sefton of UCLA Live! and community partner Lulu Washington Dance Theatre [see profiles of the faculty recipients].
The Distinguished Community Leader Award is conferred each year in recognition of a civic/community leader’s extraordinary commitment to the well being of Los Angeles and for nurturance and support of UCLA’s relationship with the broader community. This year's recipient was Alan I. Rothenberg.
The awards are made possible through the Ann C. Rosenfield Fund at the UCLA Foundation under the direction of David A. Leveton.
